Perfume Packaging MOQ Guide: What Drives the Minimum Order
MOQ is not one number. It is the sum of the bottle, the components, the decoration and any tooling. Here is how to read it.
Buyers often ask for the minimum order quantity as a single figure. In perfume packaging there is rarely one. The minimum is set by the combination of parts and processes in the pack, and it moves as the specification changes.
The four things that set the minimum
The bottle itself sets a floor. The components (pump, collar, cap) can set a higher floor if they are non-standard. Decoration adds setup per method and per colour. Custom tooling, if a new mould is required, adds the largest step of all.
Why stock is different
Stock bottle formats with standard pumps and caps have the lowest threshold, because nothing needs to be tooled or set up. This is the fastest route to market and the reason ready-to-brand configurations exist.
Why custom is different
A new bottle mould or a custom cap requires tooling before any production runs. That tooling cost has to be amortised across the run, which is what pushes a fully custom project into the highest order band.
The honest answer
Ask for the minimum per configuration rather than per bottle, and expect it to change as the specification firms up.
Final MOQ is confirmed once bottle, component and decoration specifications are aligned.
