Why Perfume Bottles Leak: Common Causes and What to Check
Leaks usually start at a joint, not at the glass. The four places to inspect before production.
A leaking perfume bottle is rarely a single failed part. In most cases the leak comes from a joint where two parts meet, and it only appears once the bottle is filled and handled.
Where leaks start
The four usual locations are the neck-to-pump joint, the collar seat, the cap closure, and the base or body of the glass itself. The first three are assembly issues; the fourth is a glass defect and should be caught at incoming inspection.
Why neck and pump joints fail
A pump matched to the wrong neck finish can seat without sealing. The fit may look correct by eye and still allow a slow weep under temperature change or during transport. This is why compatibility is confirmed by assembly and test rather than by specification alone.
What to check
Check the neck finish against the pump specification, check that the collar covers the joint fully, check the cap seats without rocking, and inspect the glass for chips at the neck. Then fill a sample and hold it under conditions that resemble shipping, because that is where slow leaks show themselves.
The limit of any claim
No supplier can honestly promise a bottle will never leak. What can be offered is an evaluation: which joints are checked, how they are checked, and what evidence is provided.
Ask for that process rather than for a guarantee.
